The Investigation

“That’s seven, Baker,” the younger agent said. “I don’t think we’ll find anymore. At least not today.”

Baker shook his head and looked at the dug up yard, with its yellow tape and white plastic placards with black numbers on the ground.

“Yeah, okay,” Baker said. “Get on home before we get into overtime.”

The younger man said he’d see Baker the next morning.

Baker scanned the yard again. He knew something was wrong. There couldn’t be seven bodies in the yard. He’d only buried three.
